On stage, in front of St. Albert Place, the scene was set for a major music “battle.” It was a beautiful summer evening and people had already been entertained by Canada Day activities and were ready for more.

Our very able Youth Subcommittee planned and provided an opportunity for emerging local bands to strut their stuff in front of an enthusiastic audience of friends, families and other music lovers. The bands had auditioned to gain some stage time and five groups were successful. They were:

  • G.U.R.L.
  • Vista Waves
  • Careless Politicians
  • Showbiz
  • City Tropics

At stake were gift cards worth $500 for the members of the winning band and an opportunity to play at the concert being organized by the St. Albert Kinsmen at the rodeo grounds on August 28 at our Rendezvous 2011 Record-Setting Picnic.

The bands put on a great show and made every effort to impress their audience. Local band The Jams acted both as master of ceremonies and entertainment as the judges deliberated.

Once the judges completed their tasks, G.U.R.L. was announced as the winner. The crowd was happy to cheer for the winner and the other bands who shared their music. The energetic dancers in front of the stage also demonstrated their enthusiastic response to the music. It was a great showcase for our young and upcoming musicians.

Best wishes and thanks to everyone who made this happen.
